How is Thrive supporting the community...

  • We are delivering a range of outreach services and activities at community venues delivered by both professionals and young people.

  • We are taking Participation Work's Youth and Community van across Burnley in areas with no community facilities for young people to access support and mental health services.

  • These visits operate on a 4-week rota to build consistency and to develop relationships with the young people in those areas.

Our ask of the Community

Following on from what we’ve learned from our research with young people, here’s how we think you can help create a brighter future for Burnley.

Help spread the word about Thrive – follow us on social media and share what opportunities and activities are available.

Keep an eye out for local community hubs where you can access Thrive.

We need to create safe spaces for young people to talk and open up about their mental health. We want to be a part of providing more mental health support for young people in Burnley and break the stigma.

DFN Project SEARCH

Project SEARCH is a Supported Internship for young people aged 18 – 24 with an EHCP who would like support to transition into meaningful employment. Based inside Calico Croft St, young people will access two days in the classroom focusing on employability skills and three days on placement in a sector that they are interested in. The programme is designed to be the final stepping-stone between education and employment for young people who require support to do this successfully. Project SEARCH is run by Burnley College in collaboration with Calico, Lancashire County Council and DFN Project SEARCH.

The Participation Works

We’re a not-for-profit grassroots organisation serving the young people and communities of East Lancashire since 2004. Our passion is predominantly in working with young people to promote emotional health and wellbeing, interpersonal skills, educational attainment and career aspiration. In addition, we hope to tackle antisocial behaviour and the negative consequences this can bring. Ultimately, we seek to enable young people to make positive choices – and positive changes – in their own lives.

The King’s Trust

At The King’s Trust, we believe that every young person should have the chance to succeed, no matter their background or the challenges they are facing. We help young people from disadvantaged communities and those facing the greatest adversity by supporting them to build the confidence and skills to live, learn and earn. Our courses, resources and other support help people aged 11 to 30 to develop essential life skills, get ready for work and access job opportunities. We support young people to find work because having a job or running a business can lead to a more stable, fulfilling life.

Canal & River Trust

Connecting many of the UK's urban and rural areas, we provide essential spaces for wildlife and people, helping us all feel happier and healthier. The 250-year-old waterways in our care – the canals, embankments, culverts and reservoirs as well as the bridges, locks and towpaths – and their vital ecosystems are threatened by the growing impact of climate change and more extreme weather. They need constant upkeep and investment. Without it, they face decline and closure, and we risk losing the incredible benefits they bring. Together, with your active support, we can keep canals alive. Join us and protect waterways for nature to thrive and everyone to enjoy. Today and in the future.

Positive Action in the Community (PAC)

Positive Action in the Community (PAC) was established in 1997 to meet the needs of the community which were not being met through statutory provision or by other organisations, particularly in the areas of youth homelessness, domestic abuse and mental wellbeing. We are a local registered charity with the vision to have a community that gives the greatest opportunity for a safe, fulfilled and aspirational life, free from, homelessness, domestic abuse and poor mental health. To achieve this, we deliver a number of projects that includes supported accommodation, community-based support, support in educational settings, counselling, and training, and personal development opportunities.
